Probiotic Blend with FOSProbiotics: The Friendly Bacteria

Anyone who has used Antibiotics should consider replenishing friendly bacteria with FOS and Acidophilus.

Many years ago, Louis Pasteur discovered pasteurization, the method of heating milk to kill harmful bacteria. Years later researchers discovered the health - promoting capabilities of lactobacillus bacteria when they observed that people who ate yogurt tended to live longer.

More than 400 different kinds of bacteria live in our gastrointestinal tract. The body depends on beneficial bacteria to manufacture B vitamins as well as to produce lactase and other antibacterial substances.

Food processing can destroy viable beneficial organisms, making it difficult for the body to maintain good intestinal flora. Even the majority of yogurt products no longer contain a viable acidophilus culture. Preservatives, additives, high-fat diets, alcohol, birth control pills, and stress can all result in poor intestinal flora.

Antibiotic drugs are especially damaging to intestinal flora and kill all kinds of bacteria, both good and bad. The effects of antibiotic use on intestinal flora can last for weeks even after the drug is discontinued; often leading to yeast overgrowth, chronic infections, poor digestion, fatigue or allergies.

Including probiotic supplements into your diet can reintroduce beneficial bacteria into your system.

Important information on the possible benefits of Acidophilus and FOS nutritional supplementation and your health:

Why FOS - What is it?

Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are naturally occurring sugars that have beneficial effects as food ingredients. FOS are also known as PREBIOTICS - since they promote the growth of probiotics - such as Acidophilus, Bifidus and Faecium.

Big Numbers - Big Results

Did you know that the gastrointestinal tract contains more than 400 different types of bacteria? This may be startling, but they are actually good bacteria. The good bacteria will continue to thrive in the body unless antibiotics are taken or an infection inhabits the intestines. The bad bacteria will start to slowly build themselves into full-blown symptoms in the forms of irritable bowel syndrome, sinus infections, yeast infections, chronic fatigue, inflammatory arthritis, skin problems, and much more. They easily become at "home" traveling through the system and attaching themselves to the lining of the colon.

Some of these bad bacteria, affecting millions of people worldwide, develop and take up residence in the gastrointestinal tract because of societies influences - preservatives, additives, high fat diets, alcohol, birth control pills, prescription drugs, contaminated water and stress. They all trigger poor intestinal flora by killing off friendly bacteria.

The bright spot in this story is that there are easy ways of positively affecting the intestinal flora in the body. They're called probiotics. By taking probiotics, a dosage of 3 to 5 billion organisms on a daily basis, a person can create a good balance of positive and negative bacteria. Probiotics squeeze their way through to the epithelial layer, which is the lining of the intestine, and create a barrier keeping any of the harmful bacteria from reaching the lining's surface and causing problems. A fructooligosaccharide supplement should also be taken to create a healthy environment in the intestinal tract for the good bacteria to reside.

There has been much research done on probiotics and it's astonishing how many different conditions it can positively influence. It may keep constipation and diarrhea under control, counteract lactose intolerance, reduce bad breath, reduce internal gas, and control cholesterol by promoting normal absorption of dietary fats, along with the following:

Traveler's Tummy

Regular use of acidophilus will help avoid stomachaches and diarrhea. This is usually caused by eating contaminated food or drinking contaminated water.

Infectious Diarrhea

Evidence has shown that probiotics can help prevent or treat acute infectious diarrhea in children and adults. Diarrhea could be serious if not treated, especially in children.

Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn's, Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Research from the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America has discovered that not only do probiotics strengthen the lining of mucous in the bowel, they improve immune function by destroying unwanted bacteria, control symptoms and can greatly reduce the relapse of Crohn's disease.

Eczema

According to recent studies, the use of probiotics during pregnancy and during nursing may reduce the risk of childhood eczema by approximately 50%.

Candida Yeast

Probiotics show positive results in eliminating the body of candida yeast.A probiotic works effectively if it has been refrigerated to keep the living organisms from dying off. Be wary of any probiotics that sit on a shelf for months at a time. Even though they may still contain some beneficial bacteria, it will not contain the same number of living organisms it had at the time of manufacture.
